Don't Neglect Your Skin

Suncream protects your skin from the ultraviolet light (UV rays) that comes in two forms UVA and UVB. UVA rays are associated with ageing skin, causing fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots making the skin look older. UVB rays are most commonly associated with sunburn however, unlike UVA these rays can not pass through glass. There is a third type called UVC but most of these are blocked out by the ozone layer. Both types of UV rays A and B are associated with carcinogens and DNA damage to the cells on your skin that can lead to types of skin cancer.

Suncream will help to protect your skin against sun damage and provide an even skin tone, assuming you can apply this evenly...

FIVE tips for when you are in the sun:

  1. Wear suncream on every occasion you are outside, even on cloudy days, UV rays will penetrate cloud coverage. Snow, sand, and water will reflect UV rays.

  2. SPF (Sun Protect Factor) of 30 will block 96% of the suns rays, a higher SFP counts only give a marginally increase in protection.

  3. Apply suncream to all exposed areas 15-30 minutes before going out in the sun and reapply regularly, even if it says "all-day protect".

  4. Don't forget your hands, ears, and if needed your scalp.

  5. Don't use suncream past its expiration date or if it has changed colour.
